President’s Message: April 2016

Hauser Geode Beds was great.  We did find some.  We went out earlier than others, so we didn’t see other members of our group.  We found many of those geodes that were previously broken into so we knew we were in the right area. The weather was perfect.

A number of our members went to the BLM Roundtable in Ridgecrest. Very interesting meeting.  There is some from the MMAC, Minerals and Mining Advisory Council who are lobbying federal lawmakers to work on passing a bill that will allow some pressure to be taken off the BLM, Bureau of Land Management and let the miners and mining industry be policed by the miners again as they were in the 1800’s.

Before the BLM, miners had to form groups, committees, or called then, Mining Districts.  Each district was different because of the areas they were located in.  This caused them to write bylaws that pertained to the particular areas that were called districts.  Present day miners who want to participate in this policing method need to find these old bylaws for their area(s) and go from there to organize your groups with others that are doing the same.  It’s not that simple, but as you grow to understand this, contact the MMAC at  to get the full information.

I would like to introduce a new member of our organization to the TSSD.  His Name is Curt Timmons and he owns the Little Digger Mining Supply in Johannesburg, CA.  Amongst other things, he has volunteered to oversee our claims out in the Summit Range.  If you are heading out to this area, feel free to stop by and say hi and get any information you may want or need.  He has some claims of his own in this area and has volunteered to let us work some group outings and also use his parking area for association get together.  He is located right across the street from the gas station/small store as you enter Johannesburg.  Oh, and if you forget some of the mining supplies you were to purchase from our local venders, he has a supply as well.

We have our Freedom Claim outing this month.  It will be interesting to see who is there and who was there.  We have some of those Overclaimers that the BLM has allowed to file claims within our areas and we also have the LDMA Duiesenburg outing the week before and we always seem to have some of them who like to stroll out upon our good claim areas.   Let’s all have a great time.

Sourdough Chet
